• Thor loves AFL

    by Louise | Sep 26, 2016

Hey K-Zoners! Hope you’re all having a great start to the holidays, or getting excited for them to start!

We’re big fans of Thor and AFL here at K-Zone HQ, and it turns out Chris Hemsworth, who plays the Marvel God of Thunder, is a massive AFL fan.

Don’t believe me? Maybe the picture he shared yesterday will convince you…

    Photo: Chris Hemsworth

Yeah, Chris is a mega Western Bulldogs fan, so their win on the weekend was cause for major celebration for him.

The Western Bulldogs are probably pretty stoked to have a superhero cheering them on when they take on the Sydney Swans at the MCG on Saturday, October 1.

Are you a Western Bulldogs fan like Chris, or a Sydney Swans supporter? Let me know in the comments below!

    Hey K-Zoners!

I don’t know about you, but I’ve been waiting for this day for aaaaages. But yep, it’s finally happened! John Cena made his full return to WWE this week, which got a mixed reaction from the Monday Night Raw crowd.

A lot has gone down since his shoulder injury in January – basically a new era has arrived, with a whole bunch of new names and faces. This was one of the first things he said to the crowd, and to sum it up, he said he doesn’t care about that and the future must go through him! Whoa.

Then AJ Styles made his entrance and jumped into the ring with Cena. Everything was going great and it looked like they’d be mates, until Styles turned and attacked Cena with his former teammates, Karl Anderson and Luke Gallows. NOT COOL. And totally unexpected.

I’m super happy Cena is back and I think we’ll be seeing way better episodes of Raw in the future. It’s cool that WWE chose not to do a regular return (like Cena absolutely dominating in a match, crowd goes wild etc!) and hopefully that means we’ll be seeing some more interesting storylines coming up.

What did you think of the return? Are you a John Cena fan? Let me know in the comments below!

    Catch you next time,
    Lou :)

  • Skating On A Waterslide

    by Lou | May 11, 2016
    Hey K-Zoners!

This is so EXTREME! Three skateboarders hit up Dubai’s Aquaventure Waterpark while it was closed for maintenance and decided to ride down 156 metres of twists and turns, a 14-metre wall and the Aquaconda waterslide. Check it out…

Look closely and you can see Milton Martinez shredding it up and enjoying the view!

And here he is performing a blunt stall.

Check out Alex Sorgente doing a frontside flip.

    And an Ollie!

Then it was Milton’s turn for a frontside flip. Epic!!!!!

What random place would you like to skateboard in if you got the chance? Let me know in the comments below!

Football! In Australia and New Zealand, no one really knows what sport you’re talking about when you say this word. There’s soccer, NRL, rugby union, AFL... They all involve your feet and some kind of ball. And they are all awesome. I seriously rate them all! Anyway, here’s what I’ve been watching and looking forward to this week…

I was so stoked that Barcelona shook off their recent poor form to THUMP Deportivo 8-0. Luis Suárez scored four goals and assisted three. What a legend. Here he is celebrating after the opening goal.

This one is especially exciting for peeps that love sport and games (like me!). A new Rugby Challenge 3 hits shelves today and I will probably spend a fair chunk of my weekend playing it. It’s a rugby simulation game, so you can create your own players and teams, which is super cool. It also has a Be a Pro Mode, so you join a club as a rookie and work your way up over 13 seasons. It’s on Xbox One, 360, PS4 and PS3, so get into it!

I can’t wait to watch the Sydney Swans take on the West Coast Eagles at the SCG on Saturday. The Swannies are currently third on the ladder and the Eagles are sixth. Last time these two teams played, the Eagles took the win. The Swans have a home ground advantage this time around though! Who will you be cheering for?

If league is your code of choice, don’t miss the Cronulla Sharks and the Penrith Panthers going head-to-head this weekend. Looking at the stats, these teams have played 29 games, with the Sharks winning 15, the Panthers winning 13… and if you’re good at maths you’ll notice that only adds up to 28! That means they’ve tied once. I’m predicting it’ll be a close one, and it will deffo be more exciting than Saturday’s Cowboys vs Eels match. The Cowboys have it in the bag!

Have a great weekend, guys! Good luck for your matches!

    Hey K-Zoners!

Did you catch the Socceroos World Cup qualifying match against Jordan last week? We crushed ‘em 5-1! The match was packed with highlights, including…

Our mate Tim Cahill adding two goals to take his international tally to 47!

The impressive midfield – it played a bit part in claiming 67% of possession.

Pretty much everything Robbie Kruse did, but special mention for assisting the first three goals for the Socceroos.

I also want to shout out to goalkeeper Matthew Ryan. Being keeper is such a tough gig, but I reckon you can learn a lot from watching this legend. Have you picked up any tips from Maty for your weekend game, or any other Socceroos?

I think we’ll be seeing stacks more strong performances from the Socceroos, with Maty saying, “We have an enormous amount of confidence and we're the champions of Asia. No matter who we're playing - be it Germany, Holland or whoever - we've shown we can take it to teams.” YAS!

    Have a great week, champions!

    WrestleMania 32
is coming to you live from Dallas, Texas on April 3! My brother is flying all the way there to see it and I’m super jelly. I asked him to take heaps of photos so I can share ‘em with all the K-Zoners out there who love WWE. Keep your peepers peeled coz I’ll post ‘em as soon as I can!

This year there will be nine WrestleMania matches. Here’s the line-up!

    • The third annual André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal – is this where The Rock will make his big appearance?
    • Triple H vs. Roman Reigns for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
    • Shane McMahon vs. The Undertaker – if Shane wins, he’ll take full control of Raw. If Undertaker loses, he will never compete at WrestleMania again
    • Dean Ambrose vs. Brock Lesnar will be having a No Holds Barred Street Fight
    • Charlotte vs. Becky Lynch vs. Sasha Banks are having a Triple Threat match for the WWE Divas Championship
    • The Usos (Jimmy and Jey) vs. The Dudley Boyz (Bubba Ray and D-Von) will be facing off in a tag team match
    •  The New Day (Kofi Kingston, Big E and Xavier Woords) vs. The League of Nations (King Barrett, Sheamus, Alberto Del Rio and Rusev) – this will be a 4-on-3 handicap match for the WWE Tag Team Championship
    • Kalisto vs. Ryback are competing for the WWE United States Championship
    • Kevin Owens vs. Sami Zayn vs. Dolph Ziggler vs. Zack Ryder vs. Sin Cara vs. The Miz vs. Stardust – wow that was a lot to type! These guys will be battling it out in a seven-man ladder match for the WWE Intercontinental Championship

And for those of us who aren’t going (*tear*), let’s make some predictions about what might happen on the night. Here are my top three. Shout out yours in the comments below!

    Roman Reigns

    1. The Rock will help out his mate Roman Reigns again, causing Triple H to lose the WWE World Heavyweight Championship
    2. Big Show will win the third annual André the Giant Memorial Battle Royal
    3. Another WWE legend will randomly show up. Maybe Stone Cold Steve Austin. Or Shawn Michaels. I would also love it if John Cena appeared over Skype or FaceTime

    Yo K-Zoners!

Yieeeeew! It’s Formula 1 time again! The 2016 Formula 1 Australian Grand Prix is this Sunday, March 20 in Melbourne. It’s the first race of the season and it’s going to be epic. It’ll be conducted over 58 laps and a distance of roughly 307km will be covered.

Oh, and if you’re in Melbs, there’s racing action on all weekend at Albert Park – there are four V8 Supercars races before Sunday’s Grand Prix. If you’re heading there, let us know in the comments below! I also heard that some of the drivers will be signing autographs, so make sure you head to the F1 Fan Zone Stage. Maybe you’ll even be able to get a selfie with one of them!

For everyone else, you can catch the Grand Prix on TEN. It starts at 4pm. I’ll be parked in front of my TV that day, cheering on number three Daniel Ricciardo, who’s part of the Red Bull Racing team. Check out the April issue of K-Zone for more on him, and to get a look at his wicked wheels.

I’ll leave you to froth on this awesome pic of the 11 F1 teams competing in the 2016 Formula 1 Season. On the top row we’ve got Mclaren, Force India, Haas and Toro Rosse. On the second row there’s Mercedes, Red Bull, Ferrari and Renault. And on the bottom row we finish up with Williams, Manor and Sauber.

  • This Week's Sports Highlights

    by Lou | Mar 09, 2016

    Hey K-Zoners!

It’s been such a rad week in sport and so much happened in just a few days! I know you all like different sports, so I’ve included a whole bunch in my highlights. Did I miss your favourite? Let me know in the comments below so I can write about it next week!

    Matildas Football

    1. After an epic 2-1 win over DPR Korea in Japan, the Matildas qualified for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games! I can’t wait to see them take home the gold in August.

    AFL update

    2. Western Bulldogs took on Melbourne Demons in the 2016 AFL NAB Challenge. Here’s Mitch Honeychurch of the Bulldogs being tackled by Dom Tyson and Jack Viney of the Demons. Melbourne won the game by 12 points.

    Surfing updates

    3. Aussie pro surfer Dion Atkinson became the Mens Champion at the annual Australian Open of Surfing at Manly Beach in Sydney. This is Dion displaying mad skills during the final. Yewwww!

    NRL updates

    4. Souths smashed the Roosters in the NRL! The score was 42-10. In my last post, I wrote that it would be a close one, but the Bunnies were just too good on the day.

    Cricket updates

    5. Victoria and Queensland battled it out on the cricket pitch as part of the Sheffield Shield. This is Chris Hartley of Queensland batting during day two. Queenslanders will be stoked to know that their team won by a massive 100 runs!

    6. Winners! Perth Wildcats defeated New Zealand Breakers 75-52 to claim their seventh NBL championship. (Gotta love that selfie stick!)

    A League

    7. Perth Glory moved into an A-League finals spot after a 2-0 win over Newcastle Jets at nib Stadium in Perth. Here’s Josh Risdon of the Glory crossing the ball against Ryan Kitto of the Jets on the night!

    Yo K-Zoners!

It’s time to dust off your team’s jersey and find your flag coz the 2016 NRL season is about to kick off! Round One starts tomorrow, with the Parramatta Eels taking on the Brisbane Broncos at Pirtek Stadium. What a match to start the season with! I think the Broncos will nab the win. What about you?

Other Round One games happening this weekend are:

    Manly v Bankstown

Friday 4/3: Manly Sea Eagles v Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs @ Brookvale Oval
Go Manly! They’re my team so I have to back them, plus I think the Bulldogs will be hurting with fullback Brett Morris out for the next four months with a knee injury.

    Raiders v Panthers

Sat 5/3: Canberra Raiders v Penrith Panthers @ GIO Stadium

The Raiders are set for a dynamite performance this weekend and are counting on starting hooker, Josh Hodgson, to work some magic on the field.

West Tigers v New Zealand Warriors

Sat 5/3: Wests Tigers v New Zealand Warriors @ Campbelltown Stadium

It’ll be a close one!  The Tigers have been training hard for this match and have a talented new back-rower, Josh Aloiai, who is out to make his mark. The Warriors haven’t won a Round One match since 2009, so I don’t like their chances…

North Queensland Cowboys v Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks

    Sat 5/3: North Queensland Cowboys v Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks @ 1300SMILES Stadium

Cowboys five-eighth, Michael Morgan, let us in on their game plan for this season – grab the April issue of K-Zone (on sale March 14!) to get the deets. The reigning premiers have this in the bag.

Sydney Roosters v South Sydney Rabbitohs

Sunday 6/3: Sydney Roosters v South Sydney Rabbitohs @ Allianz Stadium
Both coaches say their squads are excited and prepared for the season. The Roosters have been working hard since November, and apparently the Rabbitohs are ‘hungry’ for some wins. It’ll be a close one.

Gold Coast Titans v Newcastle Knights

Sunday 6/3: Gold Coast Titans v Newcastle Knights @ Cbus Super Stadium
The Knights have a fresh lineup with seven new faces, while the Titans are missing two key players due to injury and suspension. Knights might just take it.

Melbourne Storm v St George Illawarra Dragons

Monday 7/3: Melbourne Storm v St. George Illawarra Dragons @ AAMI Park

Storm weren’t at their best in the trials, but their coach reckons they’ll be in top form by Monday. They have the home ground advantage too. The Dragons have their work cut out for them!

Let me know what team you go for in the comments! Maybe I’ll see you at game this year. Look for me on the hill at Brookie Oval cheering on the mighty Sea Eagles!

The track itself is located in Zipaquirá, Colombia, where the country’s first wonder, the Salt Cathedral, is chilling out. And now thanks to Gutiérrez, this place is now home to the world’s first underground downhill ride.

Riding tunnels and pathways in subterranean conditions while showing off rad downhill skills? I think this guy is my new hero.

  • Let’s Talk About Roman Reigns

    by Lou | Feb 18, 2016

Love him or hate him, you can’t deny that Roman Reigns has come a long way in just a few years. Here’s a few little known facts about him that I thought you’d guys would wanna know.

    Roman Reigns close up

    1. He’s The Rock’s cousin!

Can you see the resemblance? Apparently, Roman Reigns is a distant cousin of The Rock’s (a.k.a. Dwayne Johnson, The Great One and the coolest person alive). Their grandfathers are brothers. Probs why The Rock came to help him Roman at the Royal Rumble back in 2015! So many Rs in that sentence…

    Roman Reigns records

    2. His win/loss record is epic!

Roman has won 76% of the matches he’s been involved in throughout his career. With those odds, I think he’s got Triple H beat for the title at Wrestlemania 32 in April.

    Roman Reigns WWE

    3. He’s the youngest WWE wrestler to score ‘The Superstar of the Year’ Slammy!
The Slammys are basically the Oscars or Grammy Awards for wrestlers. Roman nabbed himself a trophy at the 2014 awards when he was 28 years old. He must have been stoked coz basically straight after this he transformed into a superstar!

Such an impressive guy. Are you a Roman Reigns fan? Who’s your favourite WWE star? Let me know in the comments below and I’ll dig up some cool facts about them too!

Those rad peeps at Red Bull Racing are at it again! They put their Formula One car to the test by pitting it against a powerful eight-man rugby scrum! So much has happened in the world of sport over the past week! Here are my highlights. Let me know yours in the comments below!

    The Rock

    Image: Dwayne Johnson

    The Rock Returned to WWE

The Great One hijacked a Raw segment to let everyone know he’ll be at Wrestlemania 32 in April. He didn’t say exactly what he’ll be doing there, but who cares. It’s the Rock! Best moment? Has to be when he went off script and gave the mic to some fans in the front row, no doubt stressing out boss man Vince McMahon!

    ’s Last Minute Goal

The scores between Liverpool and Norwich City were all tied up, until superstar Lallana secured a 5-4 win in the 95th minute. The team celebrated so much that their manager accidentally broke his glasses. LOL. If you didn’t see it, try and catch a replay coz this match is being called the game of the season!

    Hey K-Zoners!

You can probably guess what I’ve been doing over the last couple of days! Well, yeah, working on the coolest magazine in the world, of course. But I’ve also been tuning into the Australian Open any chance I get. Did anyone catch Hewitt v Duckworth last night? I watched it with my family and we were all yelling C’MON!!!!! at the TV. LOL. After the first set, I thought they were going to be neck-and-neck for the rest of the match, but in the second set it was pretty clear Hewitt was dominating. He went on to win 7-6 6-2 6-4.

Speaking of Lleyton Hewitt… Wanna know what he gets up to in his spare time? I think it’ll surprise you. Take a look.

    TMNT and Hewitt

     Image: Nickelodeon

Yep, he hangs out with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, plus a bunch of his friends/enemies (frenemies?) on court. Why not! Novak Djokovic looks like he’s really enjoying himself. And Raphael, what are you doing with that weapon?

Anyway, the tennis stars and the Ninja Turtles recently hung out and entertained crowds at the fourth annual Kids Tennis Day at Melbourne Park. It was presented by the cool peeps at Nickelodeon and hosted by our favourite Nowhere Boy, Rahart Adams. Besides TMNT, there were dancers, acrobats and even SpongeBob swung by to meet fans.

The highlight? Watching Hewitt flex his super skills against four young players from the audience. So cool! Actually, I’m a bit jelly – I’d love to face Hewitt!

Have you been watching the Australian Open? What matches are you looking forward to? Are you as shocked by Nadal’s epic loss as I am? If you haven’t heard, Verdasco knocked Rafa out of the Australian Open in a four hour and 42 minute showdown: 7-6 4-6 3-6 7-6 6-2. Bye Rafa :(

    Hey K-Zoners!

I’m back at K-Zone HQ after a fun summer filled with swimming, bushwalking, playing table tennis and watching the
Big Bash. I even went to the Sydney Sixers v Melbourne Stars game at the Sydney Cricket Ground. It was awesome. Highlights included getting my hair sprayed pink while I was lining up outside, seeing fireworks go off when the Sixers hit sixes (say that out loud – LOL) and doing heeeeaps of Mexican waves.

    Big Bash Hawaiian Wave

It was also Beach Party night so I wore a Hawaiian shirt, and there were a few giant beach balls floating around the crowd – the security guards kept trying to steal ‘em but the power of the people prevailed! Unfortunately (for me and other Sixers fans), the Stars reached their target of 140 with eight balls to spare. They played super well though so they deserved the win!

    Cricket Game

If you can, you should try and catch a BBL game before the season ends at the end of January. Cricket fans will love seeing superstars of the game, as well as up-and-comers. Not really into cricket? I think you’ll still have a good time! The games are fast-paced and the batsmen go all out to hit as many sixes as possible.

Have you been to a game? Who’s your team? Let me know in the comments!

I also wanna know what sports you’ve been playing the school holidays.
Shout those out in the comments too!

    Hi K-Zoners,

Are you enjoying your school holidays? I’m on holidays too, and so far I’ve managed to squeeze in a game of backyard cricket, heaps of swimming, a bushwalk and a game of tennis. I always get super obsessed with tennis around January, probs coz the Australian Open is just around the corner. Those pros make it look so easy. I’m still trying to perfect my serve… But A for effort, right?

So, who do you think will dominate in the 2016 Australian Open? I’ve got big hopes for the return of Rafael Nadal, and I’ve got a feeling Serena Williams will absolutely kill it once again.

    Rafael Nadal

Who will you be cheering for?

    Hey K-Zoners!

So the 2015/2016 Big Bash League officially kicked off last week and I am so stoked. It’s going to be epic, especially coz for the first time there’s going to be Women’s BBL, meaning double the cricket! Summer = sorted. Oh, and I’ll be cheering for the Sydney Sixers. What about you?

Anyway, I won’t turn this into a post about how rad the Sixers are! Instead, I’ve been thinking about which cricketers will be the ones to watch this season. Here are my picks. Let me know if you agree!

    Cameron Boyce

After bowling only one over in Hobart Hurricanes’ last match and struggling with form, we reckon Boyce has a lot to prove and he’s going to be working super hard to show why he’s an awesome spinner.

    Ellyse Perry

Perry is the youngest person to represent Australia in cricket and the first Aussie to play both cricket and soccer in World Cups. She’s pretty much good at everything and will definitely help the Sydney Sixers dominate this season!

    Michael Klinger

This legend is so driven to succeed that he’s tailored his training to allow him to hit the ball longer and run at high intensity for an entire 20-over innings. Can’t wait to see his hard work pay off for the Perth Scorchers!

    Sarah Taylor

Taylor is super fierce! This wicketkeeper-batter made history in October by becoming the first woman to play in a men’s two-day A grade match in Australia. She’s also the youngest female cricketer to score 1000 runs in ODIs. Woo! Now she’s playing for the Adelaide Strikers in the WBBL and will be unstoppable!

Make sure you check out the BBL fixture so you can catch a game near you.

    Happy cricket watching, K-Zoners!

    See you at the SCG,

    Hi K-Zoners,

You’ve probably noticed that it’s Star Wars week on our website! And you’re probably wondering, how can I possibly write a blog post about Star Wars and sport. To be honest, I, at first, thought the same thing. Seems like a bit of a stretch, yeah? But then it hit me… If the characters in Star Wars actually had time to play sport (you know, after a long day of causing chaos in the galaxy), some of them would be pretty amazing at it!

Here are the sports I think they’d be pro at…

This droid has some smooth moves and the ability to zip in and out of intense situations. These skills are perfect for dodge ball – just imagine BB-8 ducking, weaving and beeping all over the court! LOL! The only potential downfall would be if someone thought BB-8 was the ball. Awkward.

Standing at over two metres tall, Chewie would obviously make a great basketball player. A Wookiee in a singlet and shorts, charging down the court and effortlessly slam-dunking? That’s what you call intimidating.

    Darth Vader

    Darth Vader

This one is too easy. That mask. That expert breathing. Darth was destined to be a deep-sea diver. Lucky for marine life everywhere that never happened. Interestingly, he also showed promise in show jumping.

    Luke Skywalker

    Luke Skywalker

One of the most powerful Jedis EVER and a talented lightsaber wielder, Luke would be a natural at fencing. Being Force sensitive, he’d easily be able to sense his opponent’s next move. Not sure how well a sword would deflect shots from a Stormtrooper blaster rifle though…

So much Force. Good at any sport, he would be.

And the other characters? You tell me! Leave me a comment and I’ll write back!

    Catch you soon!
